ARRL Encourages Clubs Nationwide to Prepare for April Ham Radio Open House

Independent News Story for WHCA‑ARC

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is calling on amateur radio clubs across the United States to begin preparations for the second annual Ham Radio Open House, scheduled for April 2026. The event, which debuted last year to strong participation, is designed to introduce the public to amateur radio, strengthen local club engagement, and highlight the service‑oriented mission of the amateur radio community.

According to ARRL leadership, the Open House serves as a national showcase for the hobby’s technical, educational, and emergency‑communications capabilities. Clubs are encouraged to host demonstrations, offer licensing information, and provide hands‑on experiences with modern and classic radio equipment. Many organizations are also planning to integrate digital modes, satellite contacts, and portable field setups to demonstrate the versatility of amateur radio in real‑world scenarios.

ARRL officials emphasized that the Open House is not only a recruitment opportunity but also a chance to reinforce amateur radio’s role in public service. With emergency communications continuing to be a core pillar of the hobby, clubs are being urged to highlight their involvement in ARES®, SKYWARN®, and community‑support operations.

Clubs participating in the event will have access to ARRL promotional materials, printable posters, social‑media graphics, and outreach templates. The League is also encouraging clubs to coordinate with local schools, scouting groups, emergency‑management agencies, and civic organizations to broaden community engagement.

For many clubs, the April Open House will serve as a springboard into the summer operating season, including Field Day, special event stations, and youth‑focused STEM activities. With interest in amateur radio continuing to rise, ARRL hopes the event will help clubs strengthen membership, expand training programs, and inspire the next generation of operators.
